Other findings also show a slight increase in daily use of the Twitter mobile app. This figure represents a 2% increase over the previous period in the 12 days following the acquisition.
Within a week of completing the Twitter acquisition, Mastodon and Tumblr emerged as alternative social media platforms to Twitter in the US.
According to Sensor Tower data, Mastodon and Tumblr were ranked #1 and #4, respectively, among the top-growing social networking apps in the US for the week of October 31st.
Mastodon achieved approximately 322,000 installs in the US App Store in the first 12 days (October 27-November 7) after closing the acquisition. Records from the second sensor show that this number is more than 100 times higher than in the previous period (October 15-26).
“Globally, Mastodon has grown from 15,000 facilities acquired in the previous period to one million units, a 657% increase in 12 days,” said Sensor Tower.
Sensor Tower also reported an increase in third-party Mastodon apps such as Metatext and Tootle when the company compared the two time periods.

Meanwhile, Tumblr has seen more growth in the US than the rest of the world. Comparing the two time periods mentioned above, the number of installs for this app increased by 96% from 47,000 to 92,000.
